Bounce right air catch and throw left move

 

 

Objectives: Control, Perception, Peripheral vision, Focus

Child hits the ball up with racquet in the right hand. Coach throws the ball to the left side and child tries to catch it and throws it back while hitting the ball up. By performing this drill child improves peripheral vision, focus, coordination, and ball perception. All these skills will form the base for the future abilities that are more difficult to perform.

Objectives: Placement, Control, Catching, Throwing

Coach servers to the deuce side. Child catches the ball into the cone and throws it over the net. By performing this drill child learns how to return in tennis so it will have a positive impact in later stages of return development.

Objectives: Placement, Control, Catch and throw, Consistency

Coach rallies with a child. Coach throws the balls to the ad side. Child alternates hitting backhands and throwing the ball back to the coach. By performing this drill child works on sending and receiving skills that are important in all tennis strokes.

Coach feeds balls to the backhand side. Child alternates hitting backhand cross-court to the coach and backhand down the line to the open space. By performing this drill child improves placement, consistency, control, and change of directions. These aspects are important to play successfully in tennis.

Forehand bounce over the bar – Advanced

Objectives: Placement, Control, Consistency, Trajectory

Coach feeds the ball to the forehand side. Child hits forehand and tries to make it over the bar after the bounce. By performing this drill child works on pace control and learns how to apply topspin to the ball. Both these skills are necessary to play consistently at any level.

Backhand roll the ball – Beginner

Objectives: Point of contact, Position to the ball, Control, Placement

Coach and child roll the ball to each other using backhand motion. By performing this drill child learns how to move the racquet from the backhand side and control the ball. Both these skills will help in the later stages of backhand development.
