Objectives: Placement, Change of depth, Change of direction

Coach feeds the balls to the ad side. Player alternates deep backhand down down the line and short angle backhand cross court. By performing this drill player learns how to open the court with a deep shot and put the opponent on the run with the next angle ball.

– Player stands on the service line
– Coach stands at the net on the ad side
– Player and coach rally together
– Coach hits challenging shots to move the player around
– Player runs and hits the ball back to the coach
– The goal is to improve touch and control of the shots inside the service boxes

Forehand Backhand roll the ball – Intermediate

 

 

Objectives: Control, Forehand and Backhand, Placement

4 cones are set. 1 kid rolls the ball with the racquet in cross-court direction. Other kid rolls the ball with the racquet in down the line direction. By performing this drill kids learn to properly position the racquet head while hitting the ball in different directions. This skill enables kids to consciously control the placement of the ball.

Objectives: Serve, Volley, Consistency, Placement, Control

– Player stands at the net
– Coach feeds the ball to the backhand side
– Player hits backhand volley cross-court back to the coach
– Coach hits the ball to the forehand side
– Player finishes with forehand volley cross-court to the deuce side
– The goal is to improve control and placement of volleys while having less time for reaction because of short distance between both players

– Coach feeds a ball to the ad side doubles alley
– Player hits backhand slice approach shot down the line on the run and moves to the net
– The goal is to learn how to transition to the net in the most effective way while dealing with a difficult alley ball

– Player serves to the T from Deuce side
– Coach feeds the high ball to the deuce side
– Player finishes with offensive forehand in the air down the line
– The goal is to learn how to take advantage of an easy ball after the good serve

– Player jumps back, hits overhead and recovers between the cones
– The goal is to learn how to hit overhead while jumping back

– Coach feeds balls randomly
– Player hits forehand and backhand volleys wherever he/she wants
– Player can’t play into marked area (deuce deep area)
– Player repeats this pattern

Coach feeds the balls to the forehand side. Child runs and hits the forehand. If the ball is in child moves to the next station. By performing this drill child learns how to control the pace and depth of the ball while hitting from different positions.

Objectives: Control, Coordination

Ladder is placed in front of the kid. Kid bounces the ball up. Kid tries to place the ball in each ladder box. By performing this drill kids learn how to control the ball with the racquet so acquiring this skill will help while learning tennis strokes in the future.

Objectives: Weight transfer

In this exercise, player can improve forehand weight transfer. Coach tosses the ball. Player has to hit forehand and jump forward on the front leg. This movement will prevent from moving back while hitting.
