Touch shots to ad drop shot

 

 

Objectives: Speed, Control, Endurance, Agility, Placement

– Cones are set close to the net on the ad side
– Coach feeds random balls into 2 service boxes
– Player runs to every ball and uses slice to hit it into the cones
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to control the ball while running at maximum speed. This ability is especially effective while responding to drop shots

– Player stands in the deuce corner
– Coach stands in the ad corner and drops the ball
– Player sprints, hits backhand in open stance and recovers back
– The goal is to learn how to hit backhand open stance while running at full speed and quickly recover back after the shot

– Rings are set behind the baseline
– Player stands behind the rings
– Player uses forehand and backhand to rally with the coach
– Player has to perform a split step into the rings before he hits the shot
– The goal is to create a habit to make a split step automatically

– Player stands behind the baseline
– Coach throws challenging ball to the forehand side
– Player runs to the ball, hits forehand and slides after the hit
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to slide after the hit. This skill is necessary to effectively deal with really challenging shots

Objectives: Warm up, Consistency, Control, Footwork, Sliding, Close stance

– Player stands next to the cone
– Player rallies with a coach
– Coach hits shorter balls to the backhand side
– Player moves to the ball, slides and hits backhand using close stance
– The goal of this exercise is to warm up strokes and improve sliding action. This specific footwork is crucial while playing on clay court so players should feel comfortable with this movement
