Forehand volley CC control and DEUCE – Intermediate

 

 

Objectives:Forehand volley, Placement, Consistency, Change of direction

Coach throws the balls to the deuce side. Child alternates hitting forehand volley back to the coach and down the line to the ad corner. By performing this drill child improves placement, consistency, control, and change of directions that are crucial to play successfully in tennis.

Objectives: Serve and volley, Half-volley, Speed, Placement, Control

– Player serves from the ad side and sprints forward to the net
– Coach feeds shorter ball into the service box to the ad side
– Player executes backhand half-volley deep cross-court on the run
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to play serve and volley pattern. Learning how to hit deep half-volleys on the run is a necessary skill to achieve a good position for the next winning shot

– Player stands on the baseline
– Coach stands at the net
– Player feeds easy high ball
– Coach hits overhead to the deuce side
– Player hits forehand lob cross court
– Player repeats this pattern
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to hit topspin lob after opponent’s overhead. This ability can be effective as well in singles as in doubles

Objectives: Point of contact, Position to the ball, Control, Placement

Coach and child roll the ball to each other using forehand motion. By performing this drill child learns how to move the racquet from the forehand side and control the ball. Both these skills will help in the later stages of forehand development.

– Coach feeds high ball
– Player hits overhead after the bounce into the deuce corner
– Coach hits the high ball
– Player finishes with overhead to the ad side
– The goal is to develop consistency and confidence while hitting overheads after the bounce and in the air

Objectives: Placement, Control

Court is divided into 4 zones. Coach feeds the balls to the backhand side. Child tries to hit each zone and mark it. By performing this drill child improves control, placement, and pace of the shot. All these aspects are crucial to direct the ball into different areas on the court.

– Coach feeds high ball to the ad side
– Player hits offensive backhand drive to the deuce side and moves to the net
– Coach feeds easy ball to the ad side
– Player finishes with backhand drop volley to the deuce side
– The goal is to learn how to take advantage of high balls using backhand drive and continue to win the point at the net

– The goal is to improve reaction after the overhead and learn how to control the balls that are placed into the legs

– Coach feeds an easy ball to the backhand side
– Player hits deep backhand down the line approach shot and comes to the net
– Coach feeds another ball to the deuce side
– Player finishes with deep forehand volley cross-court
– The goal of this drill is to learn how to quickly transition to the net and control the first volley.
