Coach throws the balls to the backhand and forehand side. Child hits backhand back to the coach and forehand to the deuce side. By performing this drill child improves control, placement, and consistency of the shots.

Coach servers to the ad side. Child catches the ball into the cone and throws it over the net. By performing this drill child learns how to return in tennis so it will have a positive impact in later stages of return development.

Coach throws 1 ball to the forehand side and 1 random ball to the forehand or backhand side. Child hits 1 forehand back to the coach and forehand/backhand to the deuce side. By performing this drill child improves reaction, placement, control, consistency, and change of directions.

A: Communicating about possible/probable scenarios and pre-setting your child’s correct response (protocols) is a great start.  Rehearse the solutions by setting up actual practice sets whereby the opponent is allowed to apply gamesmanship and your child has to rehearse their response sequence.
