Forehand Backhand hit and throw rally with coach

 

 

Objectives: Placement, Control, Throw and catch

Coach rallies with a child. Coach throws random balls. Child alternates hitting forehands or backhands and throwing the ball back to the coach. By performing this drill child works on sending and receiving skills that are important in all tennis strokes.

Objectives:Forehand volley, Placement, Consistency, Change of direction

Coach throws the balls to the deuce side. Child alternates hitting forehand volley back to the coach and down the line to the ad corner. By performing this drill child improves placement, consistency, control, and change of directions that are crucial to play successfully in tennis.

Objectives: Cooperation, Coordination, Control

Kids bounce the ball up with each other using only one racquet. After the hit kid has to pass the racquet to the partner to continue the rally. By performing this drill kids learn how to cooperate and that control is more important than power. Ability to send the ball where we want is crucial to play tennis effectively at any level.

Cones are set on the coach’s side. Ladder is set next to the court. Coach feeds balls to the kid. Kid tries to hit the ball over the net and inside the court. Bar is set on the coach’s side. Coach throws balls to the deuce side. Kid hits forehands under the bar. The goal in this exercise is to learn how to hit the balls low over the net and with less spin. By performing this drill kids learn how to be more offensive and how to hit balls with different trajectories.

4 cones are set. 1 kid rolls the ball with the racquet in cross-court direction. Other kid rolls the ball with the racquet in down the line direction. By performing this drill kids learn to properly position the racquet head while hitting the ball in different directions. This skill enables kids to consciously control the placement of the ball.
