Objectives: Forehand, Backhand, Footwork, Positioning

– Coach feeds random balls
– Player moves to the ball, makes little adjustment steps and hits forehand/backhand
– The goal is to learn how to improve positioning to the ball by taking small steps right before hitting

Objectives: Backhand, Footwork, Sliding, Balance

– Player stands behind the baseline
– Coach throws throws the ball to the backhand side
– Player moves to the ball, slides and hits backhand stroke
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to hit backhand while sliding to the side. Sliding action is necessary to play successfully on clay courts so players have to feel comfortable while sliding in different directions

– Coach feeds random balls to the backhand side
– Player has to use open stance to hit backhand
– The goal is to learn and get comfortable with open stance that is necessary while dealing with fast balls

Objectives: Footwork, Consistency, Control

– Coach feeds a ball to the forehand side
– Player hits forehand and recovers to the middle
– Player performs 4 jumps up and back over the baseline before he moves to the next shot
– The goal is to challenge the forehand stroke by performing specific physical exercise between the shots. Jumps make legs tired so player learns how to effectively hit the ball while having tired legs

Objectives: Footwork, Forehand, Weight transfer, Balance

– Player maintains close stance with loading the front leg
– Coach feeds balls close to the player
– Player tries to hit forehands with all the weight put on the front leg
– In this drill player works on learning how to hit with the loaded front leg. This skill is helpful to hit successful half-volleys from the baseline. Additionally player gains more feeling about the balance so he can use it more in the future

Objectives: Backhand, Placement, Consistency, Control

Coach throws the ball to the backhand side. Child hits backhand and tries to make the wobble target in the air. By performing this drill child learns how to control the pace and depth of the ball. These skills will help in the future while performing rally drills.

BH bounce over the bar – Advanced

 

 

Objectives: Control, Backhand, Placement, Spin

Bar is set on the ad side. Coach feeds the ball to the backhand. Kid tries to hit backhand stroke to make the ball bounce and fly over the bar. By performing this drill kids learn how to control the ball and apply more spin to make the ball bounce higher.

Objectives: Footwork, Forehand

– Coach is on the player’s side
– Coach feeds 3 different balls to the deuce side (deep back, side, short forward)
– Player has to move and hit forehand stroke
– In this drill player works on specific footwork skills while hitting forehands from different spots. By performing this drill player learns how to effectively move to different zones and maintain consistent forehand shots

Objectives: Serve and the next shot, Backhand, Placement, Footwork

– Coach stands on the player’s side
– Player serves wide from the AD side
– Coach throws 2 balls to the AD side
– Player hits backhand cross-court and backhand down the line
– The goal is to learn how to connect the serve with the next shot. Many players return to the opponent’s backhand so player has to be able to answer these balls deep in different directions.
