Defensive suicide slice

 

 

Objectives: Defense, Slice, Speed, Agility, Reaction, Footwork, Sliding

– Coach stands on the player’s side
– Coach throw difficult balls in different directions
– Player gets to every ball and hits defensive slice over the net
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to fight for every ball. Player should try to get all the balls over the net to make the opponent hit another difficult shot

Objectives: Low point of contact, Bending knees, Footwork, Topspin

– Coach stands in front of the player
– Coach feeds really low ball
– Player hits topspin backhand and moves forward
– Coach keeps feeding until player reaches the net
– By performing this drill player learns how to respond to low balls with backhand stroke. Movement forward forces player to stay aggressive and use all body parts to hit backhand

Objectives: Adjustment, Perception, Footwork

– Coach throws balls to the ad side
– Coach uses different spins while feeding (off own side, high, low etc)
– Player hits all the balls with backhand
– Player has to adjust to the incoming ball (different bounces)
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to adjust to different balls while hitting backhands. This skill helps players to develop variety of backhands that they will have to use during the match

Objectives: Backhand, Footwork, Sliding, Balance

– Player stands behind the baseline
– Coach throw shorter ball to the backhand side
– Player moves forwards, slides and hits backhand stroke
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to hit backhand while sliding forward. Sliding action is necessary to play successfully on clay courts so players have to feel comfortable while sliding in different directions

– Coach feeds the balls to the deuce side
– Player hits forehand volley into the deuce deep zone
– If player makes it he aims the next ball into the other zone
– If player doesn’t make the target he has to try again until he succeeds
– The goal of this drill is learn how to play deep and regular volleys

– Coach feeds high and deep balls to the ad side
– Player learns how to deal with these balls while using different strokes
– Player tries to move back, take the ball right after the bounce, take the ball on the rise or take it out of the air
– The goal is to develop different responses to deep balls to be able to execute various shots against different opponents

– Coach feeds one short ball and one ball to the side
– Player alternates hitting forehands in close stance and open stance
– Player repeats this pattern
– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to effectively hit forehand stroke using different stances

– Each cone has a ball on top
– Player runs to the cone, slides and hits the ball with hand without touching the cone
– Player recovers to the middle of the court using shuffle step
– The goal is to learn how to slide to the backhand side using open stance

Objectives: Overhead, Speed, Footwork

– Player starts between the cones
– Coach throws the high ball close to the net
– Player moves quickly to the ball and executes an overhead
– Player recovers back and repeats the pattern
– The goal of this drill is to learn how to quickly move to the overhead and establish effective position. Players have to learn how to keep the ball high and in front of the body while hitting overheads

– Coach stands in the deuce corner and drops the ball
– Player sprints, hits forehand slice and recovers back
– The goal is to learn how to hit forehand slice while running at full speed and quickly recover back after the shot

– The goal of this exercise is to learn how to slide after the hit. This skill is necessary to effectively deal with really challenging shots
